The Community Services Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Act 2020 (Qld) (the Act) establishes a portable long service leave scheme for workers in the community services industry in Queensland (the Scheme).
The Scheme allows workers to accumulate and claim long service leave entitlements based on their continuous service in the community services industry, rather than with a single employer. The Scheme is funded by a quarterly levy, with the funds invested, and the accumulated funds are used to pay eligible workers’ long service leave claims. Workers are entitled to 6.1 weeks paid leave after 7 years of recorded service with the Scheme.
The Scheme commenced on 1 January 2021 and in accordance with the Act, a five-year review of the Act is required to determine whether its provisions remain appropriate.
The Office of Industrial Relations is undertaking the review. The Review provides an opportunity for people who engage with the Scheme or otherwise interested parties to make a submission, with any comments or feedback about how the Act is operating.
